A Note from the Principal

Dear FCS Families,

What a Food Festival! Thank you to everyone who came out last Saturday. Kids and adults alike had so much fun, and it was wonderful to see our whole community together. You'll find a recap and photos below.

Looking ahead, Academic Contest sign-ups are coming up soon! Thank you in advance to everyone who responded to our initial survey; your feedback has been a big help as we plan. Please keep an eye on your inbox: we'll send out an official sign-up email shortly.

We'll also be holding a parent briefing this Saturday, 10/17, for families of our AC (credit class) students. Please see the details further down in this newsletter.

Warmly, Angela Principal, Fremont Chinese School

Week 8 Recap: Food Festival

Photo collage from the FCS Food Festival: volunteers celebrating with the day's proceeds, kids playing ring toss and carnival games, class booths serving boba tea, noodles, and cotton candy, and students at a snack and prize stand.

Thank you to every class, family, and volunteer who took part! Participation this year was 3 times last year's, and together our classes raised thousands of dollars. Watch the video montage.

General Announcements

1. Online Talk: Teaching AP Chinese Under the 2027 Exam Changes

Online talk on the 2027 AP Chinese exam changes, led by 許笑濃 of the National Council of Associations of Chinese Language Schools: Sunday, 10/25, 4 PM Pacific. Register here.

2. 2027 AP Chinese Exam: Key Changes

許笑濃 has also put together an outline of what's changing, based on College Board's AP Central (dated 8/7/2026). Highlights:

  • Fully digital: the exam is taken in College Board's Bluebook app; students need wired headphones. Listening audio plays only once.
  • New order, shorter exam: free response (Section I) now comes first, then multiple choice (Section II), about 1 hr 45 min to 2 hrs in total, down from 2 hrs 15 min.
  • New Course Project: replaces the cultural presentation and simulated conversation. Students research an official topic (released each January; music for 2027), then give a Project Presentation (20%) and answer four recorded Project Q&A questions (15%).
  • PPR due April 30: students submit a Personalized Project Reference outline through AP Digital Portfolio, to refer to during the presentation.
  • AI rules: AI may help with research, but the presentation and Q&A must be the student's own work.

Read the full outline (PDF, in Chinese), including the six themes, scoring rubric, and PPR planning table.
