Fire Evacuation Plan — Guidelines
- Whenever the fire alarm is given, all students, teachers, and staff volunteers shall immediately leave the building in an orderly manner. Teachers shall ascertain and verify that no student remains in the classroom and/or building.
- Designated evacuation routes shall be provided to all teachers and staff. In the event the designated evacuation route is blocked, teachers shall be prepared to select alternate evacuation areas and direct their classes to these areas.
- Evacuation areas will be established away from fire lanes.
- Students are to remain with their teacher in the evacuation area. Teachers shall take their roll books, take roll once in the evacuation area, and be prepared to identify missing students to administrators and/or fire marshals/designees.
Standards for a Successful Fire Drill
- All staff, students, and parents can hear the Fire Alarm.
- Orderly evacuation begins immediately and is completed within 5 minutes of the initial alarm, with minimal congestion at exit gates.
- Teachers and students are staged and situated in an orderly and quiet fashion, away from fire lanes.
- Teachers take roll once in the evacuation area. Teachers should use the Red placards to report missing students immediately to the Principal/designee.
- Upon hearing the all-clear signal, students and staff should return to their appropriate classroom, and teachers shall take roll once more. Teachers should report missing students immediately to the office.
