Academic Contest
FCS holds an annual Academic Contest open to all enrolled students. Top performers advance to the ANCCS regional competition representing Fremont Chinese School.
About the contest
The Academic Contest runs in two tiers: an internal FCS competition and the ANCCS (Association of Northern California Chinese Schools) regional contest. Students compete by grade group, and award winners are recognized at the Chinese New Year Celebration.
Contest categories
Mandarin Speech (國語演講)
Students deliver a prepared speech in Mandarin on an assigned topic. Judged on pronunciation, fluency, expression, and content.
Reading Aloud (朗讀)
Students read a provided passage aloud in Mandarin or Cantonese. Judged on accuracy, tones, and pacing.
Brush Calligraphy (毛筆書法)
Students demonstrate Traditional Chinese calligraphy using a brush. Judged on stroke order, balance, and overall form.
Academic Tests
Written tests covering vocabulary, reading comprehension, and language skills, organized by level.
